About the Ride
How to Find Us
Patriot H-D® and Fairfax H.O.G. are located at 9739 Lee Highway in Fairfax, VA 22031. For those unfamiliar with the area, the dealership is located West of the Beltway ( I-495) on U.S. Route 50 (Lee Highway). The most direct route is via I-66 from the East or West. From I-66, exit at U.S 123 and proceed South for one half mile to U. S. Route 50. Proceed East on U.S. Route 50 (Lee Highway) for one mile. Patriot H-D will be on your right. Those riders coming from the North or South via I-95 would exit from I-95 onto I-495 (the Beltway) and proceed North or South to I-66 West. Exit at U.S 123 South and proceed as above.
On the day of the Ride of the Patriots, bikes will be staged four wide along Fairfax Boulevard extending West from the dealership. Bike Staging begins at 6:30 a.m.; the Ride of the Patriots leaves at 9:00 a.m. under police escort directly to the Pentagon Parking Lot for Rolling Thunder. If you arrive early, join us at the dealership for a Community Parade and Opening Ceremony. The dealership will be open for business at 7:00 a.m. and you would be most welcome.

Staging of bikes will start at 6:00 a.m. and continue until the Ride of the Patriots leaves at 9:05 a.m. The bikes will stage four abreast at the far right of the Eastbound lane of Fairfax Boulevard (Lee Highway U.S. Routes 50 & 29) starting at Patriot H-D and filling up from the West. Access to the staging area is best made from the West via Fairfax Boulevard. Riders coming Westbound on Fairfax Boulevard will need to proceed to the appropriate traffic light to make a U-turn and fall into the line of staged bikes. There will be plenty of city Police units and volunteers to guide you and protect the safety of spectators, riders and other vehicles. Any overflow of bikes will be staged on Eaton Place. A police vehicle will establish the end of the Ride of the Patriots for control purposes. See the diagram below (click the picture for a larger view).
Bikes will line up in four columns on the curb lane on Eastbound Fairfax Boulevard starting at Patriot Harley-Davidson. The safest way to approach the Staging Area is from the West, proceed slowly toward the last bikes in line and then follow the instructions of those managing the staging. Be patient. Allow sufficient space between bikes for safety. Be sure your bike is under control during the parking process. Volunteers from the Fairfax VA Chapter, Harley Owners Group will be there to help stage the bikes. They will also provide you with a card including specifics about the Ride of the Patriots.
If you are riding with friends and you want to stay reasonably close together, you should line up behind each other in the same column. It is likely that you will get separated by one bike when the columns are merged from four columns to two when we depart. You should also realize that directions when entering the Pentagon Parking Lot may also separate the group.
Overview of the Ride of the Patriots Staging Area
At the conclusion of the Opening Ceremony...
- Bikers in the parking lot will return to their bikes.
- At 8:55am, the City of Fairfax Police and the Fairfax County Police Motor Squads will dispatch to assigned locations to direct traffic at intersections and control ride to destination.
- PROMPTLY at 9:00am , the City of Fairfax Police Motor Squad will direct the Fire Engine to start moving and Parking Lot Team members to release riders from the Patriot H-D parking lot. Riders will follow the Fire Engine and the Fairfax County Police Motor Squad members down Lee Hwy. (Route 29/50) and stop at Fairfax Circle.
- When the Patriot H-D parking lot is empty, riders staged on the street in lines 1, 2, 3 and 4 will be guided through the lanes of cones into lines "A" and "B" in a staggered formation (click here for a diagram). Lines "A" and "B" will join the riders from the Patriot H-D parking lot and the procession will continue through Fairfax Circle and down Lee Hwy (Route 29/50).
- The Fairfax County Police Motor Squad will take over the procession at the Fairfax City Line and move the procession to the extreme left lane of Lee Hwy. Riders will turn left at Nutley Street and proceed to I-66 and on to the Pentagon.
If necessary, the Fairfax County Motor Squad will stop the column at the Pan-Am Shopping Center to insure that entire column is contiguous and ready to proceed onto I-66.
CAUTION: We will be merging four columns of bikes into two columns beginning at Patriot Harley-Davidson. Follow the directions of those in charge of this merge process to avoid any accidents and ensure the safety of spectators. The pace at this point will be very slow and steady and cones will be employed to help guide the formation. Once underway, our police escort will manage the pace at approximately 35 mph on the Interstate. See diagram.
Food & Refreshments
Coffee, water, donuts and other light snacks will be available from stands provided by the American Legion Post 177 Ladies Auxillary. The American Legion stand will be located at the end of Patriot H-D's parking lot. Fairfax High School will be operating from a moving stand along the bike staging area.
Portable restrooms will be located at four points along the Staging Area and adjacent to the Patriot H-D parking lot.
Biker Supplies & Service
The dealership is open early for your convenience or if you need repairs.
Patriot H-D will be open for business from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and again from 10:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. The dealership will also be open on Monday, May 26th from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Motorcycle clothes, parts and accessories and service are readily available.
A roll-back recovery vehicle will follow the Ride of the Patriots to the entrance to the Pentagon Parking Lot. This chase vehicle will be alert to bikers who have broken down and are stranded along the highway. If there is a problem, pull off to the shoulder, turn on the 4-way flashers and remove your helmet. The vehicle will stop, load the bike, finish the parade route to pick up any other stranded bike and then return to Patriot H-D.
Your safety is our major concern. However, each rider must take responsibility for his/her actions within the group. The Ride of the Patriots® will be escorted and managed by the City of Fairfax, Fairfax County, Arlington County and Fairfax County Sheriff Motor Squads. We are indebted to their involvement and we hope you will show your respect and appreciation. The pace to the Pentagon will be slow (about 35 mph) and steady. However, gaps in the line may create higher speed situations. Helmets are REQUIRED throughout the ride.
When the ride leaves, the bikes that were staged 4 abreast will merge into 2 lanes. When merging, follow the cones and the directions of traffic managers at the merge point. Stay in your lane. Be aware of the bikes around you.
During the ride, police outriders will be positioned along the route to encourage riders to stay in line. Except for an emergency, police will only allow riders out of line at the designated exit point. Be aware that during the ride Police Motor Squad Officers will be passing the group at high rates of speed to take up new positions at the head of the formation. Stay in your lane.
An escort tow truck will be trailing the ride. If you have a problem with your bike, pull over to the right shoulder, stop, turn on your flashers and wait for the chase truck.

There is no Exit Point (Bailout) for those who do not wish to enter the Pentagon parking lot for Rolling Thunder®. If you do not wish to stage at the Pentagon, follow the group into the entrance for the parking lot, but stay on N. Boundary Road. Indicate to the Rolling Thunder staff that you do not wish to park, but want to depart. PLEASE DO NOT EXIT ALONG THE WAY, this causes a very dangerous and confusing situation.
